Because no-one’s ever made a Follow trolley before, the most common piece of advice we are asked for by new X9Follow users is how best to engage the Follow mode.
The easiest thing to do is to watch this video and then always remember that it is very important to only engage Follow mode when you are stood with the handset inside the Neutral Zone: the X9Follow is designed to follow you as you walk away from it from inside this Neutral Zone, not to find you if you try to engage Follow mode when you are stood outside it.
If you are not stood inside the Neutral Zone but want to engage Follow mode then either walk to the trolley and make sure you are stood inside the Neutral Zone or use the trolley in Remote mode to bring it close enough to you so that you can be stood inside the Neutral Zone.
Once you are stood holding the handset inside the Neutral Zone simply press the green Follow button on the handset and Follow Mode is engaged. Now, walk slowly away from the front of the trolley in the direction it is pointing and as soon as you get to the edge of the Neutral Zone the trolley will begin to follow you.
Always be aware that the trolley is following you by keeping itself a specific distance away from the handset, and so if you hold onto the handset in your hand and swing your arms as you walk, the position of the handset relative to you - and consequently the position of trolley relative to you - will keep varying and so the trolley will keep speeding up as you swing your arm forward and stop as you swing your arm back.
Once the trolley has begun following you then you should clip the handset onto the back or side pocket of your trousers or your belt as you walk: this will not produce the same oscillating motion as holding it in your hand as you swing your arms while walking.
Of course, as soon as you stop walking the trolley stops too – and it will stay stopped until you again begin walking. It’s sensible to step back into the Neutral Zone if you are going to be stooped for any length of time – for instance, if a playing partner is taking their shot – as even a small movement from you will cause the trolley to reposition itself slightly.
And when it’s time to play your shot then simply make sure the handset is stored on the handle of the trolley as this is well inside the Neutral Zone and so the trolley will remain stationary until you have played your shot, picked up the handset and again walked slowly away from the front of the trolley in the direction it is pointing.
